Creating Daily Affirmations

Do you affirm yourself daily? In other words, do you have a routine that lifts your spirits? Or do you rely on other people and events to lift you.

While I enjoy being with friends and family, I enjoy concerts and hearing the Word, and I enjoy time alone reading and being in my garden, my daily affirmation practice has been instrumental to my resilience and my confidence.

I've had a daily affirmation practice for more than 17 years. Even though my affirmations have changed slightly over time, my practice helps me forgive myself and gives me confidence to walk into opportunities.

It's affirming to know that the impact of my practice is backed by science! Scientific evidence strongly suggests that certain neural pathways are increased when people practice self-affirmation tasks (Cascio et al., 2016). In other words, events that would normally feel threatening, transform into events that teach us lessons, deepen our resilience, and strengthen our confidence.

As you consider a few words for your daily affirmation, don't think about how you feel, think about how you want to feel. You don't have to feel the words just yet. For now, claim the words and speak the words. The feelings will come later. Here are my daily affirmation words above my coffee pot in my kitchen. What's your daily affirmation practice?
